Thinking of getting a bonsai tree? Bonsai trees are a great plant to have. Here are a couple of tips for beginners in taking care of bonsai trees.
Once you get your bonsai tree you should place the plan indoors in a place that is well lit and warm. If you have an indoor bonsai tree then it will not tolerate outdoor conditions unless you live in a warm tropical area.
For outdoor bonsai trees you should keep it in a very clear location where sunlight can reach it easily. You can bring your plant indoors for 2-3 days and then outdoors again.
However you should be careful with outdoor bonsai trees as they can easily get damaged with colder temperatures. There are different types of bonsai trees such as Junipers and Cypress trees that will tolerate colder weather.
Water your outdoor bonsai tree daily, especially during summer months, so it does not dry out. You can also submerge the container and let it soak in water for 5-10 minutes.
As far as fertilizing your bonsai tree you should definitely fertilize it around every 4 months by using 20-20-20 fertilizer. Be careful not to over fertilize because this can burn the plants roots and also do not fertilize when the soil mix is dry.
A fun part of bonsai tree gardening is pruning. You can prune your bonsai tree into any shape you like. Use a small sharp plan scissor to prune your tree and larger scissors to trim off larger branches.
As mentioned, there are several types of bonsai trees. If you are a beginner than the recommend type would be Juniper, Ficus and Cypress since they are easier to start with and great for beginners and gardening enthusiasts.
